Position Overview:

The Apprentice / Electrical Helper works under the direction and supervision of a qualified electrician, journeyman, foreman, or other designated supervisor. This position assists with electrical, generator, and general construction activities necessary to complete the installation, service, and maintenance of company products.

The Apprentice / Helper will receive hands-on training while assisting experienced team members and is expected to follow all company procedures, safety requirements, and supervisor instructions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist Electricians and Installers: Work directly with electricians, journeymen, technicians, and installation crews to support generator installations and related electrical and construction work.
  • Load and Unload Materials: Load and unload generators, transfer switches, electrical materials, conduit, wire, tools, equipment, concrete materials, and other jobsite supplies.
  • Transport and Organize Equipment: Assist with transporting materials and equipment between the warehouse, company vehicles, and jobsites. Keep vehicles, tools, and materials organized and properly stored.
  • Jobsite Setup: Prepare work areas before installation, including setting out tools and materials, running extension cords and temporary power, preparing equipment, protecting customer property, and establishing safe work areas.
  • Assist With Electrical Installation: Under appropriate supervision, assist with tasks such as pulling wire, installing conduit, mounting equipment, preparing electrical materials, and other electrical installation activities permitted based on the employee's training and level of supervision.
  • Assist With Generator Installation: Help position generators and transfer switches, prepare generator pads and foundations, assist with equipment placement, and support the installation crew throughout the project.
  • Trenching and Site Preparation: Assist with digging and preparing trenches for electrical conduit, gas piping, or other utilities using hand tools or approved equipment.
  • Light Construction Work: Perform basic construction activities associated with generator installations, including preparing and pouring concrete pads, minor framing, drilling, cutting, patching, and other jobsite preparation.
  • Operate Tools and Equipment: Safely operate approved hand tools, power tools, trenchers, material-handling equipment, and other construction equipment after receiving appropriate instruction or training.
  • Maintain a Safe Jobsite: Keep work areas clean and free of unnecessary materials, cords, tools, and debris that could create safety hazards.
  • Jobsite Cleanup: At the completion of work, collect and properly store tools and unused materials, remove construction debris, clean the work area, and leave the customer's property in a professional condition.
  • Follow Instructions and Safety Procedures: Follow instructions provided by supervisors and comply with company safety procedures, jobsite requirements, and applicable workplace safety regulations.
  • Customer Property Protection: Exercise care when working around customers' homes, landscaping, driveways, walls, equipment, and other property.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other installation, warehouse, maintenance, or construction-support duties reasonably assigned by a supervisor.
Qualifications & Requirements

  • Mechanical Aptitude: Ability and willingness to learn how to safely use hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
  • Physical Ability: Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, digging, pushing, pulling, and regularly lifting and carrying tools, materials, and equipment. Team lifting or mechanical assistance must be used when appropriate for heavier items.
  • Outdoor Work: Ability to work outdoors and at construction sites in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Communication & Listening Skills: Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, particularly instructions relating to safety and installation procedures.
  • Basic Math & Measurement Skills: Ability to accurately use measurements and perform basic calculations needed for conduit, wire, concrete, trenching, equipment placement, and other installation activities.
  • Organization: Maintain tools, materials, equipment, company vehicles, and work areas in an orderly and professional manner.
  • Time Management: Arrive at scheduled locations on time and complete assigned responsibilities efficiently so projects remain on schedule.
  • Teamwork: Work cooperatively and professionally with electricians, technicians, supervisors, contractors, inspectors, vendors, customers, and other members of the installation team.
  • Reliability: Maintain dependable attendance, arrive ready to work, and communicate promptly with supervisors regarding jobsite or scheduling issues.
  • Safety: Follow all required PPE, equipment-operation, electrical-safety, and jobsite-safety procedures.
Training & Development

This is a hands-on learning position. The Apprentice / Electrical Helper is expected to develop electrical, mechanical, generator-installation, and construction skills through supervised field experience and company-provided training. Employees may be assigned additional responsibilities as their training, experience, demonstrated competency, and applicable licensing or certification requirements allow.

Compensation: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
